The idea for this project came from a horrific event that shocked our community. A car accident during the August of 2018 that lead to the deaths of three Queen Anne boys who were loved by many throughout Seattle.
None of the boys were wearing seat belts. It may be possible that there were not working seat belts in their seats.
For his Eagle Scout project, Scott Johnson from Scout Troop 72 in Seattle wants to teach everyone about the importance of seat belts!
- You: 1) Wear your seat belt every single time you get in the car. If no seat belt is available, please refuse to ride in that car!
2) We give instructions, below, for a simple DIY project for your family car. You can install a bell on seat belts with glue dots. This helps the driver and passengers hear seat belts buckling up.
- Our Community: Troop members are hosting face-to-face educational lectures in middle schools and high schools in Seattle
- Beyond: Troop members will launch a 5 day social media outreach campaign on March 2nd, 2020. Each day for 5 days, we will blast out a different infographic about seat belt safety. Please follow us on Instagram and Facebook, and share!
The “Seat Bell” is an inexpensive aftermarket product that is designed to increase seat belt use.
It does this by giving the driver an audible cue that passengers have buckled their seat belts. Passengers will get used to hearing a sound when they buckle their seat belt, which will reinforce the habit.
Bells should be kept out of reach of small children.
